12th–16th century
Red earth – the name and the first settlers
Where the name Kokkinopilos comes from, who first settled here, and what the Ottoman registers record.
1732–1884
The church of Agia Paraskevi and its carved mermaid
Built in the 18th century, burned twice and rebuilt, with a walnut iconostasis carried up the mountain on 52 animals.
1813–1912
Revolts, hardship and liberation
From Ali Pasha and the cholera of 1813 to the revolutions of the 19th century and liberation in October 1912.
1943–today
Burned twice – the occupation and the great dispersal
The village was burned in 1943 and 1944. Its people scattered to Kalyvia, Pieria, Katerini, Thessaloniki and overseas.
