Kokkinoplites around the world.

The association of the village itself. It organises the Antamoma of Kokkinoplites from everywhere, the summer festivities and, in 2026, the concert that brought close to 2,000 people up the mountain.

Founded in 2014 in the highest village of Olympus to bring people closer to the mountain: hiking, mountaineering and ecotourism. Its members lead hikes on the trails of Olympus, clean and waymark paths, run environmental and mountain-safety programmes, and volunteer every July at the Faethon Skyrace.

Its big project is the old village school: granted to the club by the municipality of Elassona in 2015 and restored with LEADER funds and members’ donations as the Olympus Conference Centre, with a folklore museum, an events hall and space for environmental research.

The association of Kalyvia, the daughter settlement of Kokkinopilos and today the largest home of the community. It takes part in the Antamoma of Kokkinoplites from everywhere.

The voices of the village. The choir keeps the songs of Kokkinopilos alive and sings at the Antamoma of Kokkinoplites from everywhere.

Founded in 1951 by Kokkinoplites who settled in Katerini after the war. Since the summer of 1991 the association has had its own home in the centre of the town.

Dance groups for all ages, a choir, an orchestra, a women’s section, a blood bank and its own newspaper keep the customs, songs and traditions of Kokkinopilos alive and pass them on to the next generation.

Its dancers have performed across Greece and at international festivals in Austria, Germany, Serbia, Romania and Spain, led the ceremony for the Olympic Flame in Katerini in 2004, and hosted the Panhellenic Gathering of Vlachs in 2005.

Many Kokkinoplites live in and around Athens. Their association was recognised by the court in 2017, organises cultural and sports events, and speaks up for the village and for Olympus.

For many years the Kokkinoplites of Melbourne had their own association, “The 12 Gods of Olympus”, a home for the families who built their lives in Australia after the war.

When the association closed, it gave its remaining funds, 30,000 Australian dollars, in equal shares to three hospitals in Victoria, as the Greek-Australian newspaper Neos Kosmos reported. A last act of generosity that honours the village and its people.
